our story
A Legacy Begins
In 1973, Mr. Jefferson established Jefferson’s Tailor Shop with a vision to bring Old World craftsmanship to St. Louis. His passion for creating perfectly fitted garments and his roots in classic European tailoring quickly attracted a loyal clientele. Every piece was hand-stitched with care, crafted from fabrics sourced from the world’s finest mills. Jefferson’s success was grounded in his understanding of timeless tailoring principles, combined with his innovative approach to meet each client’s unique style.
The Next Generation – Jefferson & Sons Tailors
By 1986, the shop evolved into Jefferson & Sons Tailors with the addition of Mr. Jefferson’s son, Daniel, who brought fresh energy and new ideas. Under his father’s guidance, Daniel mastered traditional techniques and developed an unmatched eye for detail. Embracing subtle changes in fashion, he began experimenting with modern cuts and finishes while upholding the classic, tailored style his father established. Together, they expanded their services to include custom shirts and accessories, making Jefferson & Sons a premier destination for gentlemen’s fashion in St. Louis.
A New Era of Tailoring
By 1999, Jefferson & Sons had become a well-known name throughout the region, recognized for both its bespoke suits and dedication to traditional tailoring in a modern age. The father-and-son team introduced luxury overcoats and casual jackets, combining functionality with elegance. Jefferson & Sons was now a symbol of sophistication and craftsmanship, attracting clients from across St. Louis and beyond.
Embracing Innovation
In 2010, Daniel’s son, Matthew, joined the business, bringing a contemporary perspective to Jefferson & Sons Tailors. An advocate for blending classic techniques with modern technology, Matthew introduced digital fittings and design software, enhancing the precision of each custom fit. Known for his attention to detail and innovation, Matthew also expanded the fabric range, incorporating sustainably sourced materials and offering custom linings. Under Matthew’s influence, the shop became a seamless blend of heritage and forward-thinking design.
A Tailoring Legacy in a Historic Landmark
Looking to the future, Jefferson & Sons Tailors is set to begin an exciting new chapter in 2025 with a move to the historic Jefferson Arms Building in downtown St. Louis. Once renovations are completed and the building reopens, Jefferson & Sons will continue its legacy of fine craftsmanship in this storied landmark. This new location will provide an expanded space for consultations, fittings, and showcase areas for premium fabrics. By merging its heritage with a fresh setting, Jefferson & Sons Tailors will build on its decades of dedication to quality, precision, and style—creating an inspiring destination for both long-time clients and new visitors alike.
